BIO

Oliver Olwyn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who holds certifications as a Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), and a Rainbow Advocacy and Educator (RAE). Oliver works with both addicts and their betrayed partners, guiding them through the healing process of recovery. As a psychotherapist since 2009, Oliver brings a unique blend of personal and professional experience to his practice.

Before moving to the United States, Oliver worked in South Africa, providing individual and group counseling for students and teachers suffering from trauma during the Apartheid years. With many clients unable to speak English, he used music, puppets and performance art to foster therapeutic engagement and healing.

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1994, Oliver overcame his own challenges. With no support or resources, he put himself through college, determined to create a better life for himself. Now, after more than two decades in recovery, he uses his personal experience to connect with his clients, helping them see that with perseverance and dedication, they can build a life beyond their wildest dreams.

Oliver runs his own private practice, working with clients of all sexual orientations and gender identities. He is dedicated to helping individuals navigate the complexities of dating, relationships, and maintaining healthy sexuality in a hypersexualized culture.

For those with addictive personalities, including those who identify as sex addicts, these challenges can often lead to self-soothing through sex or other addictive behaviors. Initially, these actions may feel like allies, providing temporary relief. However, over time they create a self-made prison, shrinking one’s world into isolation, despair, or dysfunctional relationships.

Oliver has guided countless addicts and their injured partners toward recovery, breaking free from these overbearing shackles and transforming their lives. His approach fosters a shift from isolation and despair to a life filled with freedom, joy, and healthy sexual relationships—a world of endless possibilities.

Recognizing the profound connection between addiction and trauma, Oliver integrates his expertise as a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner to address trauma at its core. His trauma-focused approach, rooted in Somatic Experiencing and founded by Dr. Peter Levine, emphasizes addressing the physiological roots of trauma rather than just managing its symptoms. By helping clients discharge trauma stored in their bodies, this method fosters deep and lasting healing.

Oliver’s training under Dr. Patrick Carnes and certification through IITAP ensure a compassionate, evidence-based framework for guiding individuals toward holistic recovery.
